How to scan a barcode from an image

Three steps take you from choosing a file to reviewing the decoded results.

  1. Choose, drop, or paste an image

    Select a supported file, drag it into the scanner, or paste an image from the clipboard. Files larger than 10 MB are rejected before decoding.

  2. Inspect and rotate

    Use the preview zoom to inspect blur, cropping, glare, and the quiet zone. Rotate left or right to create a corrected local copy and scan it again.

  3. Review the decoded results

    Copy individual values or all results, check applicable number structure, and save entries to local scan history. A decoded value does not prove product identity.

Narrow bars and finder patterns should stay distinct when the preview is enlarged.

Scan a barcode from a picture or screenshot

This barcode scanner reads the code from an image, so you can decode a barcode from a photo, a saved screenshot, or an exported picture without a live camera. Choose the file, drop it in, or paste it — the tool detects the barcode in the picture and returns its value and format. For a physical label in front of you, the camera barcode scanner is faster.

Local processing, rotation, and zoom

The selected image is decoded by browser-side code; this scanner does not provide an image-upload endpoint, and the image is not included in scan-history records. Preview zoom changes only what you see. Rotation creates a temporary corrected copy in browser memory and scans that instead. Can I scan a barcode from a picture?

Yes. Will a picture of a barcode scan? In most cases, yes — upload a photo or a screenshot and this barcode scanner reads the code from the image, as long as it is sharp and complete.

Which image types can I upload?

The file picker accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and SVG images up to 10 MB. An SVG barcode is rasterized before decoding. Other formats such as PDF or HEIC are not accepted as uploads.

Why was my image rejected?

The file may exceed 10 MB, use an unsupported type, be empty, be corrupt, or use an encoding the browser cannot open.

Can one image contain several barcodes?

Yes. The decoder requests up to 10 symbols from one image and removes duplicate format-and-value pairs before showing the result list.

Does preview zoom improve decoding?

No. Preview zoom changes only what you see. Rotation changes the pixels sent to the decoder; zoom does not resample or alter the source image.
